The chief executive of Metgasco says he is not surprised by the findings of a parliamentary inquiry into coal seam gas that were released earlier this week.
The company has plans to extract significant gas reserves in the Casino area and wants to build a pipeline to supply the south-east Queensland market.
Peter Henderson says he’s pleased the inquiry made no recommendation for a halt to exploration.
He says the findings back up what the industry has said all along.
“There are something like 4000 coal seam gas wells drilled in Australia already,” he said.
“We produce about a third of the gas which is consumed on the eastern coast of Australia.
“There’s been not one evidence of environmental contamination from those wells, and that’s supported by numerous government officials and by the comments that come out in the committee here.”
